Appletwig Songbook

Creating a brand new tradition

Appletwig Songbook are a 5-piece electric roots band based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Our music combines traditional songs with contemporary jazz and rock influences, and 'world' influences from Africa and Latin America.

Formed in 2009 under the direction of Richard Scott, the band toured around many of the miners' welfare halls in the North East playing a mix of original material and modern arrangements of traditional mining songs. Our first CD The Miners' Welfare was released in 2012.

Our latest album Dying To Live was released in February 2019 and has been favourably reviewed by a number of radio broadcasters, including Nova Radio, Tyneside FM, and was album of the week on Liz Franklin's Folk Garden on Eden FM, and World Of Difference on Blues And Roots Radio. Both albums are available in our CD Shop.

The style of each album reflects changes in the band's membership, however the current line-up has now been gigging around the North-East since 2014. You can read our upcoming gig information on the News page.

You can also follow the band via our Facebook page.

"The CD of the week is Appletwig Songbook's Dying To Live which takes a fresh musical approach to some familiar folk themes. Well done to Richard Scott and his collaborators."
